This overview will assist Hampshire professionals and volunteers to feel confident to differentiate between parental conflict and domestic abuse and to establish at what point parental conflict might become unhealthy. Professionals will start to understand when exposure to a level of parental conflict will have a detrimental impact on the child/ children living in the family and how to respond, protect children and support parents. The course is available to all professionals working with children and young people, including schools, nurseries, health colleagues and social worker/family support workers.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the differences between parental conflict and domestic abuse (in its different forms)
  • Understand how to respond to cases of parental conflict.
  • Learn how to identify and respond early to domestic abuse disclosures and suspicions
  • Learn to use appropriate language with victims of domestic abuse
  • Gain an understanding of risk assessment and safety planning
  • Identify sources of support, including specialist services, and how to signpost/ refer to them
