Detail:
This training will share knowledge and develop understanding into the prevalence of disability and domestic abuse, highlighting the barriers disabled people face in reporting/disclosing abuse, societal and cultural stereotypes that influence perceptions and the impact of this abuse on any children living within the home. It will also highlight how abuse can often go unnoticed, leaving disabled people as hidden victims.
This training also looks at legislation and the government definition of domestic abuse, national statistics of the prevalence of domestic abuse, as well as examples of abuse that disabled people experience.
The training focuses on both visible and invisible disabilities, and how we as professionals can adapt and change practice and offer appropriate and inclusive support for anyone who is being subjected to domestic abuse.
