Safeguarding Children Through Their Educational Engagement - A Multi-Agency Approach

This session will provide an introduction to safeguarding children through their engagement in education. You will hear from presenters across a range of agencies describing their role in supporting children where educational engagement is an issue. This may be expressed as a child not attending school regularly, arriving late frequently or children being at risk of suspension or exclusion from school.  It may also include reduced hours provision for children or alternative provision.  The session will also include multi agency work taking place through the Education and Inclusion service.

“Education is a protective factor – at its best, it offers a safe space to access support, ensures oversight and support from professionals, and helps children discover their talents, develop resilience, and realise their potential. Where children are not in school – or if school ceases to be the safe place it should be – they miss both the protections and opportunities it can provide, whilst becoming more vulnerable to harm.” DFE 2019

Hampshire Safeguarding Children Partnership has identified safeguarding children through their education engagement as a priority for 2024-26 and will share the learning and key findings from relevant audits and local learning events as part of this session.

Attendance from partner agencies across Hampshire Safeguarding Children Partnerships is encouraged. Learning will be relevant for professionals from frontline practitioners to those in senior management roles.
